The Last Monarchy integrates with Q to improve their DAO’s Governance Security
In a move to enhance governance and transparency, The Last Monarchy, a Web3 strategy game set in the ancient world, is integrating with the Q Protocol. The integration strengthens the game’s decentralized organization, “The Last DAO”, by supporting clear and fair decision-making processes. By using Q’s advanced governance tools, The Last DAO ensures that its community of players can fulfill their role in shaping the game’s future.
The integration goal is to build trust and maintain a balanced approach to managing the game’s development and new features. Here’s a closer look at how this integration works and what it means for The Last DAO and its members.
The Last DAO: Community-Driven Development
The Last Monarchy takes players back to an ancient world where they can grow different civilizations, take on other players and own in-game items as NFTs, from their civilization’s unique heroes to relevant buildings. Beyond its gameplay, The Last Monarchy empowers its community through The Last DAO, designed to give the gaming community a significant voice in the development of The Last Monarchy. Players can actively participate in discussions and decisions about the game’s future. This involvement goes beyond typical feedback mechanisms, allowing players to vote on critical aspects like which new civilizations to introduce into the game in the form of NFT collections.
“At the heart of every game are its players, but the relationship between gamers and developers is often neglected. We are proud to be able to support The Last DAO on their mission to unite players, give them a voice, and harness their creative power in pushing the Game forward. Doing this on-chain is only natural for a game that runs on web3 rails,” says Gerrit Brügge, DAO Ecosystem & Product, Q Development AG.
Voting rights within The Last DAO are allocated based on players’ in-game experience and engagement. This system aims to reflect the community’s most committed members’ insights and preferences. To manage and facilitate these processes, an Expert Panel, known as the Game Play Team, oversees the community’s contributions. This team of full-time developers and contributors listens to community feedback, designs new game content, and handles technical implementations.
Integrating with Q: Enhancing Governance and Transparency
The Last DAO’s integration with the Q Protocol brings a robust governance framework to its operations. At its core, the Q Governance Development Kit (“GDK”) provides a system of smart contracts that support a fully independent and self-governed on-chain DAO, along with an enforceable DAO constitution. This constitution transparently outlines the decision-making processes, identifies membership and the stakeholders involved in The Last DAO, and establishes methods for dispute resolution.
Ensuring Transparent NFT Additions
A further key aspect of this integration and a step to improve the DAO’s Governance Security, is the enforcement of transparency in decisions regarding new NFT collections that are added to the game. To balance decentralization with effective operations, The Last DAO has opted for external oversight by Q on these decisions to maintain adherence to self-defined processes and transparency standards.
When a new NFT collection is proposed, the proposal must meet specific criteria outlined in the DAO’s constitution. Among others, initial requirements include providing a clear rationale for the addition and an assessment of the potential impact on the game’s balance by the new NFTs. The goal is to ensure that DAO members have all the necessary information to make informed voting decisions that benefit the game.
“The integration with Q Protocol enhances our governance structure and reinforces our commitment to transparency. By utilizing Q’s governance services, we empower our players to have a meaningful impact on the development of the game,” says Dominik Jurada, CEO of The Last Monarchy and a member of the Game Play Team.
If a proposal does not meet these transparency standards, the Q Root Nodes—an external body to the DAO and a core component of the Q Protocol—must veto the proposal, preventing the new NFT collection from being added. This mechanism helps maintain the integrity and fairness of the decision-making process and balance the power dynamics between DAO members and the Game Play Team. Additionally, by updating the DAO Constitution, DAO members can propose and vote on changes to these transparency requirements, allowing the entire system to evolve in response to the community’s needs.
The future of on-chain gaming
The Last Monarchy’s integration with the Q Protocol illustrates a thoughtful approach to decentralized governance in gaming. By combining decentralized decision-making with structured oversight and transparency, The Last DAO sets up a balanced and fair governance model. This integration with Q benefits both The Last Monarchy’s players and Q Token Holders, as fees from governance services are returned to the Q community as part of Q’s sustainable economic model.
As the blockchain gaming sector grows, The Last Monarchy’s use of Q Protocol sets a precedent for how DAOs can effectively engage their communities and maintain transparent, democratic and efficient governance.
